Being a recent owner of the EM2000. (Previously Korg i30). I am interested and pleased to find even when playing play a midi file I can still split the board as per arrangement style mode including 3rd split. I have not seen this facility before, certainly Yamaha, Technics, Korg all revert to full keyboard mode when a midi file is loaded.
Does anyone have any comments.

I'm not certain, but I think if you write a performance with the desired split points, you can call it up during song play. I remember doing a two way split like that, but I never used a three way, so I'm not sure. Try it!

Uncle Dave, Thank you for your reply. Yes you are correct if you save the settings as a UPS (User Program Set) this will also call up the midi file from disk ready to play.
As I have stated I am recently new to the EM2000 and I wish to get to know all its plus & minus points, as I did with the Korg i30.
I certainly prefer the Roland voicing they are clear and open, but the Styles where more playable and variable on the i30. The Korg backings where also more vibrant, this was due to the large available effects settings and placements included in the Korg arrangements. The Roland arrangements effects are limited to providing mainly Reverb & Chorus. The DSP EFX effects only being available in the real-time (keyboard) voices.
Any further input is welcome about the EM2000 \ G1000.

Graham,
I'm sure that if you strip away all the effects from any Korg sound you'll be sadly disapointed. The depend on the processing to get that great sound, so if you use a sound dry (like their GM map) it's awful!
Roland gives you reverb, chorus & delay on the sounds to enhance the playability - NOT to create the tonality. A little reverb or delay goes a long way to add sizzle to a sound.

Hello Graham and Yo ! Uncle Dave .......
The Solton X1 allows you to have programs (layered patches) with upto 4 split points.
Midi sequnce play back has always been a key selling point with KEtron products. Since the X1 has more note polyphony than the MS series, the 4 split's can be utilized more .
I have stated that the new SD1 set's the split instantly with any sequence. Press the manaul bass button and the bass voice that is set with the midi sequence is set to the left hand . A very handy tool for players wanting to play left hand bass lines . Easy ! Just my 2 cents worth . DanO

Dan,
We're talking EM2000 here! Graham doesn't have an X1 ! Let's not cloud the issue at hand.

I have to agree with Uncle Dave about Korg's heavy use of effects to mask their samples' poor quality; this habit dates back to the days of M1. To save memory, the sounds were sampled -I guess- at around 10000 Hz, so they were lacking very high frequencies (i.e. the "sparkle").

Thanks for your reply's. Uncle Dave in fairness to Dan01 he is saying I think that you can still split the keyboard when playing back a midi file on the X1 as I can with the EM.
I don't want to be responsible for any arguing on this Forum HA!!!!

PS. The Korg Voicing is not that bad, but I do like the XG Voices on the PSR9000.

Uncle Dave,
Sorry for clouding the issue. However, I am a Ketron-O-holic. DanO
